PROTECTING THOSE WHO ARE MOST VULNERABLE

PROTECTING THOSE WHO ARE MOST VULNERABLE

It is an extraordinarily difficult and emotional task to admit an aging or disabled family member into a life care or nursing facility. Reaching the sometimes inevitable decision to do so is a very painful process, and family members try to take comfort in the thought that they are doing the right thing by entrusting loved ones to strangers who, they assume, are skilled caregivers with patience and integrity.  Before making a decision folks try to research all of the options; visit and tour multiple facilities; interview nursing and care center administrators and healthcare providers; and weigh the financial costs and options, in the hope that they are making the right choices. Most of the time, those choices work out just fine, and necessary trust is justified. Sometimes, however, we discover that the paid professionals in whom we have placed our highest confidence have, carelessly or intentionally, violated our trust and caused harm to loved ones. That harm can come in the form of bed sores caused by inadequate or neglectful nursing care; falls caused by failures to take required precautions or provide proper supervision; failure to dispense necessary medication, or errors in administering the wrong medications; failure to provide proper nutrition; or worst of all, intentional physical and/or mental abuse. With an aging population, shrinking medical insurance reimbursements, rising health care costs, and a shortage of qualified healthcare professionals that may cause dangerous understaffing, tragedies now occur more frequently than ever before. In these situations, the skills of an experienced trial attorney are essential to ensure that an injured family member is properly compensated; and that harmful deviations from mandated standards of care are fully redressed. Your loved ones and your family deserve nothing less.
